Role Overview:

We’re seeking an experienced Backend Engineer to help our AI/ML team to design, build, and maintain the infrastructure powering our end-to-end AI platform. You will play a key role in developing APIs, optimizing server-side logic, and ensuring the scalability and security of our application. This is an exciting opportunity for a developer who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and is eager to tackle complex technical challenges.

Responsibilities:

• Architect, develop and maintain robust, scalable APIs to support demanding AI workflows, with an emphasis on performance and reliability.
• Develop APIs that serve data to the frontend and external services. Ensure proper documentation and versioning.
• Collaborate with the team to design and maintain database schemas, write optimized SQL queries, and manage data migrations using tools like Django ORM or SQLAlchemy.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code, preferably using SOLID principles. Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to best practices, including design patterns and software architecture principles.
• Identify performance bottlenecks, and optimize system architecture and code to scale with increasing traffic and data load.
• Work closely with product managers and AI/ML developers to define requirements, estimate work, and ship new features. Provide mentorship to junior developers and help with skill development within the team.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest trends in Python and backend development. Continuously improve development processes, code quality, and the overall engineering culture.

Potential Responsibilities:

• Implement unit and integration tests, debug production issues, and ensure high code coverage.
• Implement security best practices, including data encryption, authentication (OAuth, JWT), and authorization mechanisms to protect sensitive user data.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
• 4+ years of experience in backend development with Python, including building and maintaining scalable applications.
• Experience building and consuming RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs. Familiarity with API design best practices and versioning strategies.
• Proficiency with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g. MongoDB). Experience with ORMs (e.g. SQLAlchemy) is preferable.
• Proficient with Git for version control and familiarity with GitFlow or other branching strategies.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities, strong communication skills, and a team-oriented mindset. Ability to mentor junior developers and contribute to team culture.

Nice to Have:

• Experience with testing frameworks and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) workflows.
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and containerization technologies like Docker.
• Experience using collaboration tools such as Slack, Notion.
• Strong experience with Python web frameworks, such are Flask, Django or FastAPI.
• Experience integrating machine learning models into backend systems.
